The same advertisement can perform very differently depending on where it is placed. Choosing the right location is the most important decision in outdoor advertising. This checklist helps you judge a site on what matters, not just on how big the board is.
Start with your audience, not the site
Before looking at any location, write down who you want to reach and where they spend time. A coaching institute needs visibility near colleges and residential areas. A retail store benefits from sites close to the shop. A brand launch may need busy central roads.
Five checks for every location
1. Visibility
Look at the approach. How far away can the board be seen? Trees, flyovers, poles or other signboards can block the view. A clear sight line for several seconds is more valuable than a large board that is hidden.
2. Traffic speed and dwell time
Slow or stopping traffic, such as signals and junctions, gives people more time to read. On fast roads, use short messages and large text.
3. Audience fit
Check who actually passes the site. Office roads, markets, residential areas and highways attract different people at different times of day.
4. Distance from the point of sale
For local businesses, a site within a short drive or walk of your store converts attention into visits.
5. Permissions and site status
Make sure the site is approved and available for the whole booking period. This protects you from sudden removal and wasted spend.
Day and night visibility
Check whether the hoarding is lit and for how many hours. A site that works in daylight but disappears at night reaches fewer people.
A simple scorecard
When comparing options, rate each site from 1 to 5 on visibility, traffic, audience fit, nearness to your business and site status. Add the scores and compare. Do not choose only by price. A slightly higher-cost site with a strong score often delivers better value.
Site-visit checklist
- Visit at different times, including evening.
- Stand where drivers and pedestrians will see the board.
- Note any obstructions or competing hoardings nearby.
- Check the condition of the structure and lighting.
- Take photos for your records.
City roads or highways?
City roads suit local awareness and frequent exposure. Highways suit long-distance visibility and brand statements. Your goal and message should decide, not habit. To see how areas compare, read about billboard locations in Delhi NCR or explore outdoor hoardings in Delhi.
